We live in a world that is in turmoil. Everywhere we look there are riots and protests over different issues. There are people dying from one disease or another.
There are natural disasters happening all over the world that are affecting thousands of people.
We need to be more vigilant in our prayers than we have ever been.
As we celebrate each New Year, we need to be consistent in prayer.
Join me this year and pray for those things that we all need.
Here are six things to pray for this year: pray for peace, health & healing, safety, our leaders, prosperity, and most of all, salvation for a world that is lost and without Jesus.
Peace
Our world is turning upside down with so much happening. In January 2021, we saw how protests came to a culmination leading to an assault on the capital. We saw a new President be sworn in and in the last couple of years, there have been a lot of changes, including Russia attaching Ukraine.
Throughout the past years, we have seen riots, protests, and shootings over issues that have come to a head.
I never thought I would see some of these things in my lifetime.
It is sad and shameful. But we know that the enemy is fighting harder and harder to cause discord and division.
As Christians, we should recognize that these things taking place in our world today are part of a greater plan.
We need to pray for peace. Peace in our country, our communities, and our neighborhoods.
We need to pray for peace in other countries as well. The things that happen in other countries ultimately affect us too.
In
John 16:33, Jesus said,
“These things have I spoken unto you, that in me you might have peace. In the world, you shall have tribulation, but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”
What an awesome promise from our Lord.
During the unrest at the capitol in January 2021, the war in Ukraine, and shootings in the U.S., all I can think about is the fact that we can only stand on Christ the solid rock.
There is nothing that happens politically or socially that we can do anything about, but we can offer up prayers for our nation and for other countries that the Lord will take care of everything.
In
Philippians 4:7, Paul writes,
“And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
God can provide peace, but we must ask and believe he will do what we ask in his name.
Health & Healing
During the past few years, we have seen the health of our nation decrease.
There was a worldwide pandemic. We saw and heard of thousands upon thousands who lost their lives. And we are still not completely out of this illness affecting those around us.
But we have also heard about thousands of people who had the virus and recovered.
I personally had family members who contracted the virus, and some were put into the hospital. Fortunately, those family members recovered. And some had it a second time in the last year.
But I had friends who had family members who were not as fortunate.
We need to be in prayer for the health of our nation.
God knows all and he sees all but we must be bold enough to come before his throne and ask him to send healing and health to us.
“Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities, who healeth all thy diseases.” Psalms 103:2,3
Safety
We need to be in prayer also for the safety of our health providers, our first responders, our pastors, and our families.
We must reach the throne of God for our nation.
Ask the Lord to provide safety for those who are reaching out to help others.
Those who are working with the homeless to help meet their needs.
Those who put their lives in danger daily to help people get the care they need, or to save their homes from fire, and for our families who all go out each day to work, school, or shopping for the families’ needs.
We put our lives in God’s hands each day. And we have a heavenly Father that cares for us and looks out for us.
And Peter reminds us how much God cares for us in
I Peter 5:7, “Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”
There is no reason for us to live in fear because our God cares for us and he is just a whisper away.
Our Leaders
No matter what your political views are we are still “one nation under God.”
We have elected officials on the national level, state level, and local levels who are all working together to make decisions for our well-being.
Sometimes we may not see all the things that take place as positive, but we must remain faithful in all things and believe that God has an ultimate plan.
God is not going to allow things to happen that are not part of His ultimate plan.
Let us have faith in God and trust that he is looking out for us all and pray for his guiding hand on our leaders.
“Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.” Proverbs 29:18
Prosperity
There are so many people living in poverty today.
Many have lost their jobs or have extremely low-paying jobs.
Many have been evicted from their homes or have come close to losing their home due to their current circumstances in the past few years.
We live in one of the richest countries in the world and it is unfathomable that so many people do not have some of the most basic necessities of life.
We need to pray that people will step up and help those around them who need help.
We need to pray that God will bless those who have good-paying jobs and can help their neighbors.
Let our prayer be as that of the Psalmist –
“Save now, I beseech thee, O Lord: O Lord, I beseech thee, send now prosperity.” Psalms 118:25
If we pray for God’s blessings upon our land, there is no reason why we cannot all experience prosperity.
Salvation
Everything listed above that I talked about praying for: peace, health & healing, safety, our leaders, and prosperity are all worthy things to pray for, but it is my personal opinion that salvation is the most important of all.
Our world is
lost.
There are souls dying every day without the knowledge of Christ and what he did for us.
There are people losing their lives daily to addiction, violence, diseases, and other maladies who may not have ever heard the story of Jesus and the ultimate sacrifice he made.
Jesus Christ paid the price for our sins so that we might be saved.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16
Salvation is a
free gift for everyone.
We all can have this gift. We all can experience his wonderful love and mercy.
We need to pray that people will be reached with the “good news” of our Savior.
It is my hope and prayer that more and more lost souls can be reached this New Year and in years to come.
Our prayers to God can turn the tide against the evil raging through our world today.
Let our prayers be that God can and will save us, bring peace and prosperity to our nation, bring health and healing to a suffering world, and provide safety for us all and guidance for our leaders.
“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” II Chronicles 7:14
If you have not already given your heart and life to the Lord, consider this: You have but one life to live and once that life is gone where will you spend eternity? See “
God’s Simple Plan of Salvation.”
Many blessings to all,
Pamela
